in physics, entropy is a quantity generally described as the measure of disorder within any kind of thermodynamic system, including the universe. it counts the microscopic states that system can assume when open, interacting with others or getting altered by external conditions.
thus, entropy makes for the perfect description of the way ilpo väisänen (pan sonic, i- lp-o in dub) and dirk dresselhaus (schneider tm, a s s, locust fudge) have approached music creation since the establishment of their collaborative project angel (now die angel) in 1999. allowing energy to flow freely through machines, bodies and different acoustic conditions, they’ve generated a powerful archive of mutating sonic states. a kind of creative attitude that favors exploring the physical complexity of unstructured electronics.
that’s where the title for their first release on cosmo rhythmatic comes from, “entropien” being the finnish word and the german plural for entropy. getting back to the stripped down set of their beginnings (modular synths, effects, and processed guitar), they’ve come out with one of their most, intense, rawest and noisiest albums to date, showcasing an impressing scale of dynamics while attacking the senses with belligerent tones. oren ambarchi also shows up on two tracks, intertwining his drums, field recording, and guitar within the duo’s discordant layers.

after the acclaimed release of nature boy s ruff disco volume one, frame of mind is back with another re-issue of a 25 year old record. gerd s very first house release called afterglow, produced under the alias of it s thinking together with two of his (highschool) friends mark and dirk-jan, was picked up by john acquaviva for release on the short lived plus 8 subsidiary called malego back in 1992. the ep features five warm and atmospheric house tracks recorded at a dark attic room somewhere in the west of holland in 1991. these days afterglow is quite a sought after record that rarely turns up cheap on discogs. we are proud to be able to offer you limited copies of this re-mastered package.

on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.

berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!

eigenlob stinkt, also schnell die wäscheklammer auf die nase. wir haben immer schon gewusst, dass matias aguayo ein jahrhunderttalent ist. seit seinen ersten gehversuchen mit michael mayer als zimt oder später mit dirk leyers als closer musik und mit marcus rossknecht als broke und vor allem auch solo weiss matias immer wieder zu Überraschen. seine dj-/live-sets gelten von buenos aires Über paris bis köln als legendär und: visionär! nach seinem tongue-in-cheek sommerhit minimal lag matias jedoch nicht auf der faulen haut, sondern hat mal eben en passant eine der inspiriertesten techno eps der jüngeren geschichte aus dem hut gezaubert. der titeltrack walter neff ist ein gnadenloser poptechno-ohrwurm und dancefloor-destroyer zugleich. der teufel muss ihm diese bassline verraten haben! one for the ladies... bei rebolledo style schraubt matias das drecklevel kräftig hoch und serviert einen hochenergetischen chicago-meets-baile-funk-meets-pianohouse-slammer. dann rundet matias die platte mit einem weiteren ausnahmetrack ab, carter msp. die bassline ist schlichtweg krank, dabei aber unglaublich sexy und uplifting. ernsthaft, alle drei tracks sind derart brilliant, dass man sich fragt, warum fast alle anderen platten im vergleich mit der walter neff ep so Öde sind? so, jetzt könnt ihr die wäscheklammer wieder abnehmen.
